Black & Decker-12 Cup Coffeemaker

The industrial design goals for Black & Decker’s entry-level coffeemaker were to make the brewing process cleaner and simpler. This was achieved by designing an extra large on/off switch visible from across the room, and moving the brew-basket handle to the outside, keeping hands clean and away from filters and coffee grounds.

Dozens of concept sketches explored an array of forms and strategies for the entire line of B&D coffeemakers, from entry level through high-end models.

Programmable high-end models integrated stainless steel facades, further distinguishing them from entry level designs.
